TE 805 Overview of Assistive Technology - Grant Proposal

Reflective Statement:
Another important assignment accomplished for the classTE 805 Overview of Assistive Technology, was the creation of a grant proposal. This grant proposal, presented in Adobe PDF form, was an important assignment in that working in academia, the need to write a real-world grant proposal is bound to occur. Having this added skill set will make me that much more valuable to my employers as well as to whomever I can assist.

Process Statement:
The process of writing a grant proposal was labor intensive in that it required doing a lot of research and adhering to a very specific format of what to present and how to present it. I chose the idea of creating a website that was geared toward higher education students seeking open source assistive technology software because in searching for such a dedicated website, I was not able to find one. I believe in the power of open source software as well as helping people accomplish their educational goals. If this grant proposal where funded it would help to facilitate both.

Assessment Statement:
The grant proposal succeeds in being an effective explanation of the proposition. I have often wondered if it would actually be successful in securing the funds needed to actually execute its proposal. I sent a copy of the finished product to the Disability Support Services office for the university that I work at (KSU), and if they deem it appropriate they will submit it and try and win a grant. Future improvements to this grant would be to utilize even more social networking options to help facilitate its use in a more real time sense with less oversight.

This was the first time I have written a grant proposal and it has been a good learning experience. I plan on seeking more opportunities where I can write or assist in writing grant proposals so as to gain more experience.

The main skills displayed in this portfolio item are: writing, research skills, creative thinking, and utilization of developing technologies.
